Based in Crewe, Smallwood Manufacturing designs and manufactures cupboards and furniture for schools, opticians and pharmacies. Catering for a variety of customers, it is currently working on jobs for an optician’s and furniture for salons.
Peter Livesey, manager at Smallwood, says that the school summer holidays is always the busiest time of year, as it has a large customer base supplying furniture to schools. It is the time of year when schools get things ready before term time, which means that Smallwood’s schedule becomes very busy.
Peter went on to mention how the company has recently moved workshops and the reliable Austrian engineering of Felder's machines ensured that it was able to continue with the demands of its busy work schedule.
The Felder G660 edgebander, from the Felder professional series, is one of the machines which enables it to meet its demands, as it performs with exceptional speed and accuracy, processing different types of strip edge material. Peter demonstrates just how efficient the G660 is and the ease at which perfect edges can be achieved.
The G660 offers high levels of repeatability when changing between edge materials, saving time and helping to maintain consistency. Therefore it comes as no surprise that Smallwood continues to be successful and meet its demanding schedule.
Smallwood has also equipped its workshop with a Format 4 Kappa 550 sliding table panel saw. A fast and uncomplicated piece of machinery, it is very simple to change the saw blade thanks to the locking system where the flange can be tightened and released by hand.
Peter stated how everything the company does is now manageable, as a result of the smooth process of the machines it has in the workshop. He made the point that when Smallwood got its new edgebander, it was a smooth transition from the existing machine to the new one and it was very easy to get going.
Equipped with Felder machines in its workshop, Smallwood has an efficient line of production. As a result, it is able to finish the work it has scheduled and is able to meet demands.
