Growing demand for bespoke and heritage joinery projects led Blunts Joinery Supplies to invest in a WEINIG Profimat 50. The new machine is helping the family-run business increase efficiency, expand capacity and maintain the high-quality finish that has defined its reputation for more than 35 years.
For more than three decades, Blunts Joinery Supplies has built its reputation on producing high-quality bespoke joinery for a diverse client base, from private homeowners to heritage properties and stately homes. Now, the family-run business is investing in the future with the addition of a WEINIG Profimat 50, a move that is helping increase moulding capacity, improve efficiency and maintain the exacting standards for which the company is known.
Founded in 1990 by Michael and Sharon Blunt, the business has grown steadily through a commitment to craftsmanship and customer service. Today, Michael’s son, Jed Blunt, a master woodturner and member of the British Woodturners Association, leads the day-to-day operation, while Michael continues to play an active role in the business.
As demand for bespoke mouldings and specialist joinery continues to grow, the company identified the need for a machine that could increase throughput without compromising quality.
“The quality of what we produce has always been our top priority,” explains Michael Blunt. “The challenge is finding ways to increase capacity and process more work through the workshop while maintaining the standards our customers expect. The Profimat 50 has helped us do exactly that, allowing us to machine timber more efficiently and achieve consistent results.”
Investing in productivity and precision
Designed for precision four-sided planing and profiling, the WEINIG Profimat 50 enables timber to be machined on multiple faces in a single pass, helping manufacturers streamline production while maintaining high levels of accuracy and finish quality.
For Blunts, the machine is proving particularly valuable across a wide range of bespoke applications, including mouldings for heritage restoration projects, custom joinery components and specialist architectural work. The flexibility to produce a variety of profiles efficiently while maintaining consistency has delivered significant benefits across the workshop.
“We manufacture a wide range of products, so we need machinery that can handle diverse requirements,” says Michael. “The Profimat 50 gives us the flexibility to produce the profiles we need accurately and consistently. For us, it has always been about delivering the best possible finished product. You want mouldings that are precise, repeatable and beautifully finished, and the Profimat 50 delivers on all fronts.”
The machine has also helped improve workflow efficiency, reducing handling and processing time and allowing the team to focus on other value-added aspects of each project.
“Time is always a factor in a joinery workshop,” Michael adds. “The more efficiently we can machine our timber, the more time we have available for the rest of the manufacturing process.”
A long-held ambition realised
Beyond its production benefits, the investment carries personal significance for Michael, who had admired WEINIG machinery throughout his career.
“The Profimat 50 is the Rolls-Royce of moulders as far as I’m concerned,” he says. “The build quality is exceptional, and you can see that reflected in the finish it produces. WEINIG has earned its reputation through decades of expertise in timber processing, and this machine lives up to those expectations.”
He continues: “When Sharon and I established the business, owning a WEINIG machine was always an ambition. You know the reputation these machines have within the industry and hope that one day you’ll have one in your own workshop. To see the Profimat 50 on our shop floor today is something I’m genuinely proud of. We’ve worked hard to build the business, and this feels like an important milestone.”
Supporting the next generation
The investment also reflects the company’s long-term commitment to growth and succession. With Jed now leading the business, advanced manufacturing technology is helping ensure Blunts remains well positioned to meet future customer demands while preserving the levels of craftsmanship that have defined the company for more than 35 years.
Reliability, performance and aftersales support were all key considerations during the purchasing process. Working closely with WEINIG UK Area Sales Manager Andrew Morgan, the company was able to identify a solution tailored to its production requirements.
“You don’t invest in a machine of this calibre lightly,” says Michael. “You evaluate the quality, the reliability and the long-term value it will bring to the business. Andrew has been excellent throughout the process and provided a level of knowledge and support that gave us complete confidence in our decision.”
Looking ahead
Having continuously invested in machinery over the years, Michael believes the Profimat 50 represents another significant step forward for the business.
“We’ve invested heavily in our workshop, and I’d like to think we now have one of the best-equipped joinery facilities in the Midlands,” he says. “The Profimat 50 is a major part of that. It gives us the capacity to take on more work, improve efficiency and continue delivering the standards our customers have come to expect.”
As Blunts Joinery Supplies looks to the future, the WEINIG Profimat 50 is helping bridge traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing efficiency, ensuring the family business can continue producing high-quality bespoke joinery for generations to come.
