Door & Joinery Solutions was established in 2003 manufacturing fire doors and undertaking other joinery work from a small workshop in Sileby, Leicestershire. From humble beginnings, with a skilled workforce and management who understand the market, DJS went from strength to strength. In 2019 they took the decision to expand, adding a second production unit in a new built factory in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.
High quality fire doors require top quality finish – especially the vision panel frames. Looking for machinery to achieve this finish, MD Adrian Goldsbury visited the W18 exhibition in Birmingham and was impressed with the machinery offered by Hoffmann Machine Co Ltd.
He placed an order for a Hoffmann MS35-SF combination machine which mitre cuts the profile and routers a dovetail slot in one machine cycle. Assembly of the vision panel cassette is completed by inserting Hoffmann Dovetail keys into the dovetail slots which draw each joint securely together.
The Hoffmann MS35-SF was delivered and installed at Door & Joinery Solutions’ factory in Sileby in January 2019. After much positive feedback from the workshop staff, regarding quality, accuracy and speed, Adrian immediately decided to purchase a second machine for the new factory in Burton-on-Trent.
Branch manager, Mitch Johnson commented: “We currently use the Hoffmann MS35-SF to produce glazing bead cassettes for our fire doors and glazed screens. Using the Hoffmann jointing system not only improves the process by simplifying it, but it has also increased the quality of the finished joint and the speed at which it is produced. Because the joints are so accurate and secure, there is less filling required on the joints before spraying and the cassettes can be lacquered before fitting into the door. Production of the vision panel has increased by roughly 20% since having the Hoffmann machinery installed.”
