For a number of years, the team from J & C O’Meara has been searching for a hot-melt edgebander which can apply tapes up to 2mm in thickness. Having attended numerous International trade shows, the company became very aware of the vast array of machines available from the many producers around the globe.
To compliment J & C O’Meara’s established Genisis range of sliding table panel saws, the company ha a number of explicit requirements that the machine had to meet which included the build quality, the components used in construction, and being from a reputable source – it also required a machine that would simply offer that little bit more in capabilities, yet be priced for the small- to medium-sized furniture manufacturer.
What J & C O’Meara found was that as soon as 2mm PVC was mentioned, the majority of machinery manufacturers started talking about machines with essentially the same specification, separate end-saws, separate flush trim, separate rounding-cutters and so forth, making the machine very long and very expensive.
But then the Burscough, Lancashire firm met a small, but established machinery producer which had developed a system to allow the flush trimmers to also do the corner-rounding and also the end-trimming.
The advantage of this system is that it makes the machine a lot more compact, which in turn substantially reduces the price, whilst making the machine easier to set up and less complicated.
So, welcome to the Genisis 412S from J & C O’Meara – a machine which has a traditional heavy-duty track feed and is ideal for tapes up to 2mm in thickness. The machine can end-trim, flush-trim and corner-round – it has scrapers, solvent-cleaner and buffers, all this being in a machine less than 3.5m in length and currently being promoted as an introductory, limited time offer of £9,995 plus vat.
For those looking for a fuller specification, the Genisis 512S has the same working stations as the 412S but also benefits from pre-milling. The pre-milling unit allows manufacturers easier planning of cutting lists by setting the pre-mill to the same thickness of the tape being used, whilst offering all the benefits of removing scorer marks or any chipping that may occur when the panel has been handled, or, of course, re-referencing the edge if the edge has been left overnight, absorbed moisture and become swollen.
The 512S also has the same heavy duty track-feed system but also has the benefit of a colour touch-screen control along with pre-heating of the edge which assists in the bonding process, especially in the cold winter months.
The Genisis 512S is just over 4.2m long and currently being promoted at an impressive £12,500 plus VAT. Again, this is a limited time offer only.
