When Harvey Fire Doors opened its new manufacturing facility in Newport, South Wales, the team had a choice to make. Fit it out with machinery they already knew or start from scratch with equipment built for where the business was heading. They chose the second option, and it’s a decision that’s paying off.
HHarvey Fire Doors is part of the Harvey FitOut Group, a family-owned business with a long-standing reputation for quality craftsmanship, manufacturing excellence and customer service. As demand grew for certified timber fire door-sets across healthcare, education, commercial and residential projects, so did the need for a facility that could keep pace.
Rather than transplant old machinery into a new building, Harvey Fire Doors decided to invest in equipment that matched their ambitions from day one. That’s where HOLZ-HER came in. The company installed a HOLZ-HER beam saw and edgebander, supplied by WEINIG UK, as the backbone of the new facility.

The process of getting there mattered just as much as the outcome. “Our experience dealing with Antony Jempson, WEINIG Group area sales manager and the whole team has been outstanding throughout the entire project,” Paul explained. “From the initial consultation through to installation, commissioning and operator training, every stage was managed professionally. The team took time to understand our business and our manufacturing objectives, and that guidance made a real difference.”

The results came quickly. The Linea 6015 beam saw has sharpened cutting accuracy and repeatability, improving how efficiently Harvey Fire Doors uses its materials.
The Sprint 1327 Doors edgebander, meanwhile, has become the machine the whole factory floor talks about. “It consistently delivers an exceptional finish that complements the premium quality of our products,” Paul said. Together, the two machines have reduced manual handling, increased throughput and helped create a process that’s genuinely more streamlined, not just faster on paper.
For a facility manufacturing FD30 and FD60 certified doorsets alongside bespoke architectural joinery, that combination of speed and consistency is the difference between meeting demand and falling behind it. “The machines are intuitive to operate, highly reliable, and have become an integral part of our day-to-day manufacturing process,” Paul said. “The improvements in accuracy, consistency and ease of operation have been welcomed across the factory.”
There’s a knock-on effect too. When your equipment is reliable, your team stops firefighting and starts planning. “The investment has given us the confidence to pursue larger projects and continue expanding our manufacturing capabilities,” Paul said.
