For EYJ Fire Doors Ltd, rising demand meant production needed to scale quickly and efficiently. The solution was Masterwood’s Project 470 CNC.
Based in East Yorkshire, EYJ Fire Doors Ltd is a trusted manufacturer of bespoke fire door sets for projects of all sizes. With over 20 years of experience and a reputation for quality craftsmanship, the company has become one of the leading suppliers of fire door sets in the North of England. As enquiries and workloads increased, the team recognised its existing machinery was no longer fit for purpose.
“We had a large upturn in enquiries and work coming in, which required us to increase our capacity,” explains Joe Porter, Managing Director at EYJ Fire Doors. “The CNC we had at the time wasn’t up to scratch.”
Investing in growth
To support continued expansion, EYJ invested in a Masterwood Project 470 CNC. A major factor in the decision was the machine’s tandem loading capability.
“The Masterwood 470 has the ability to tandem load doors, which allows us to essentially double our capacity and scale efficiently,” says Joe.
The investment also marked a return to a familiar supplier. “We’ve known Dave Kennard from Masterwood for quite some time. We had a Masterwood machine fifteen years ago, and in hindsight we should have stuck with them. “Our most recent CNC was from a UK manufacturer, and it simply does not compare to the standards of Masterwood, so it was an easy decision to return.”
Smooth installation and training
The transition was straightforward, supported by tailored training from Masterwood GB. “Installation went smoothly, and we had a four-day block of training,” says Joe. “Tony Armitage, who ran the training, was fantastic and made sure we were fully confident using the machine to its maximum potential.”
A transformative investment
Since installation, the impact of the Project 470 has been significant. “Tandem loading is the major benefit as it has essentially doubled our capacity. The speed and accuracy at which it operates is amazing.”
The machine has also improved flexibility thanks to MasterWorks software. “The MasterWorks software allows us to machine a large variety of components into door blanks. Beforehand we were working with software that was very limiting. With MasterWorks, you can do basically anything.”
Ongoing support
Beyond the machine itself, Masterwood’s aftersales support has added further value. “The Masterwood GB team are always responsive, friendly and happy to help,” affirms Joe. With increased capacity, flexibility and trusted support, EYJ is now well positioned for future growth.
