Total quality with Ligmatech’s assembly solutions

The Homag Group offers a range of pioneering production solutions, designed to ensure success in every sector. As part of the Homag Group, the Ligmatech company has developed into a leading manufacturer of innovative products for automation, assembly and packing equipment.

Beginning in 1981 as a small enterprise making specialist woodworking machines, Ligmatech has made a name for itself in the global market thanks to its wide range of powerful innovative machines and system solutions.

Whilst there has been a good choice of saws, edgebanders and CNC machines to produce the parts, the assembly process has, until now, tended to be a bottleneck. Ligmatech recognised the need for flexible equipment which can cope with today’s make-to-order demands and has developed efficient solutions to meet this gap in the market.

Ligmatech MDE 120 – saving time and energy
Launched at Ligna 2013, the Ligmatech MDE 120 provides a first class solution for final assembly. It is an automatic carcass pressing machine which offers an opportunity for sensitive, thin-walled, high quality or mitre carcasses to be pressed together gently, creating the most accurate rectangular solid wood result yet.

Regardless of whether an assembly solution for series production, small batch sizes or batch size one are required, the MDE 120 offers a true all-round solution.

It uses a patented development – zero edge pressing – which leaves the carcass entirely accessible whilst allowing simple and fast processing of the rear panel.

The MDE 120 offers enormous energy efficiency with ecoPlus. In this continuous carcass clamp the weight compensation of the top pressure beam is electrically operated, so it no longer relies on compressed air to move it pneumatically. This feature delivers significant energy savings of up to 50%.

The innovative Ligmatech MDE 120 has countless time saving features including the new Homag Group control system – powerTouch. This advanced software enables the operator to quickly and easily enter settings such as pressing time or press power via a touch-screen.

Ligmatech MPH 450 carcass clamp
The Ligmatech MPH 450 is a versatile and torsion-free manually operated carcass clamp. The machine's unique design means that set-up time for different size cases is virtually eliminated. The MPH 450 incorporates two sets of steel pressure beams, one set horizontal and one vertical. As a result of their alternating construction, these steel beams provide continuous contact across both sides of the case.

The vertical and horizontal pressure, which is applied electrically, is regulated with a frequency-controlled motor via a chain drive system. The clamping operation is executed by push button and features two speeds. Once the push buttons are released, the pressure beams stop moving.

After the operator places the pre-assembled case onto the work platform, the pressure beams can be activated. Cycling can also be processed manually with just the push buttons. After the desired time, the operator opens up the clamp via two push buttons on the control panel.

Highly flexible and cost effective
“Ligmatech leads the field in assembly technology,” claims Simon Brooks, sales and marketing director for Homag UK. He continues: “For the smaller manufacturers, models like the MPH 450 provide high quality pressing of carcasses, whilst for the large manufacturers the MDE range is designed to sit in a throughfeed production line.

“With other models from Ligmatech and the Homag Group, a complete automated line can be created from feeding, drilling, gluing, pre-plugging, pressing, final assembly and packaging.

“If you want to improve your efficiency, quality and speed of production, it really is worth talking to us about what can be achieved with the Ligmatech assembly equipment,” concludes Simon.
