The Coretex Group specialises in supplying lightweight honeycomb core materials, sandwich panels, bonding equipment, adhesives and consultancy to a diverse range of industries.
Under the leadership of Managing Director, Geoff Layland, the company has built a reputation for technical expertise, a broad product offering, excellent customer service, and a passion for sustainable innovation.
With more than 30 years’ experience in engineering design, production, sales, and marketing of honeycomb cores and composite structures, Geoff has guided Coretex through significant shifts in the industry.
The company began its journey, Geoff explains, as a supplier of raw materials — primarily honeycomb cores. With the increasing demand for ready-made, high-performance sandwich panels, and the impact of global market changes, its offering has evolved considerably.
“To take the aluminium honeycomb in as a slice and pull it apart like a Christmas decoration, you need a machine the size of this room, a significant budget, and a lot of floor space in your factory,” explains Geoff. “Unless you’re making several thousand square metres a month, you would never invest in one.”
Supporting customers to mitigate such pressures – whether logistical, financial, or environmental – is thus fundamental to The Coretex Group’s mission. With the philosophy of “Always innovating” at its heart, the company focuses on reducing weight, cutting costs and saving time for its customers, all while improving performance.
Reducing weight without compromising on strength
“The whole of our business is based on weight,” Geoff explains. “Take a solid MDF door, it’s heavy, it’s awkward, and two people are required to move it. With our honeycomb panels, one person can lift a full sheet; It makes a huge difference in handling, logistics, and safety.”
This commitment to lightweight design enables The Coretex Group to provide high-strength, easy-to-handle panels that simplify manufacturing and installation across multiple sectors — from furniture and interiors to transport and exhibitions.
Sustainable by design One of the company’s greatest strengths lies in the environmental credentials of its products. The aluminium skins and cores used – from AluNid Honeycomb to Larcore panels – are all fully recyclablem without loss of material quality. Paper cores, such as SWAP Kraft and used in Coretex TimberLite ECO, are also 100% recyclable and/or combustible under controlled conditions. The innovative corrugated core used in Staluflex AL Aluminium and ZN Steel offers some remarkably strong and 100% recyclable designs.
These lightweight designs naturally reduce material usage and transport energy, simplify handling, and come with certifications that ensure safe and responsible use. The result is a Coretex product family that grows customer loyalty and repeat business.
“Clients are now saying ‘I’ve bought this before, can I just order it online?’, so that’s exactly what we’re doing,” Geoff says. “You’ll be able to buy our stock panels straight from the website and have them in three or four days. If it’s something bespoke, requiring kit cutting or CNC routing, it may take a bit longer but we can still handle that.”
Local support and faster lead times Events over the past few years have tested supply chains and reaffirmed the importance of local partners for customers. With the UK facing post-Brexit and global logistical challenges, The Coretex Group has positioned itself as a reliable, technically adept partner close to home.
“Clients today want local support, security of supply, and faster lead times,” emphasises Geoff. “We keep certain stock here in the UK — lightweight panels and cores — so we can deliver swiftly.”
The company’s responsiveness extends to quickly identifying the right product for its clients application. “Clients say that we pick up the phone, understand the technical side, the samples arrive quickly, and we just solve the problem. That’s what matters,” says Geoff.
Digital growth With these digital developments on the horizon, and a portfolio that blends technical innovation with environmental responsibility, the future looks bright for The Coretex Group.
