Second Skipper brings increased flexibility to Decorative Panels Components

Operating from a newly commissioned purpose built factory of some 175,000 sq ft, Decorative Panels Components has the capacity to produce over 600,000 panels per week.

Decorative Panels Components offer a diverse range of cut, edged, drilled and shaped panels. Ranging from the high volume manufacture of kitchen and bedroom carcass and fascia panels, to shelving and storage systems for both the decorative and long shelf markets, the choice of panel components is endless.

Bulk palletised or fully boxed products to the client’s specification are all available from the same site.

Decorative Panels Components (DPC) offer panels to a wide market place that demands flexibility within the production process, the Biesse Skipper 100 is an ideal solution.

“The move towards bespoke furniture requires a more aesthetic approach, so the old 32mm drilling pattern is replaced with point to point operation,” says DPC factory manager, Martin O’Reilly. “Customers don’t want to see a surplus of holes, so the machine is flexible enough to create any drilling pattern required.

“The original Skipper has been magnificent. Even though the machine has been running for 132 hours per week for the past seven years – apart from normal wear and tear, it’s been ultra-reliable and is still as accurate now as the day it was installed.”

However, with the change of DPC’s product mix, it became a pressure point.

“It was the machine with the most loading”, continues Martin, “but because the old machine has been so good, we decided to buy another. The new machine is quicker, with faster cycle times and is even more operator-friendly. The training was all completed in half a day, so the machine was up and running in full production in no time at all.

“Both machines have been a great investment without a doubt, we purchased a new machine because of our experience, the reliability and the accuracy of the original machine.”

“It’s given us the capacity to reduce hours, confidence to sell more similar panels and the ability to improve customer lead times.”
