Cut & Edge Leeds – a sure and swift partner helping SMEs deliver more

Cut & Edge Leeds is a full service edgebanding, panel cutting and CNC machining business, part of a network operation which includes other branches across the UK.

The family business is run Chris, Andy and Nick Jones who set up the business after discovering a niche in the market where they felt they could target its services towards SME clients who operate on a smaller basis and typically don’t have their own machines or transport to provide the high quality, sophisticated designs and work needed to satisfy today’s customers.

“We understand the challenges faced by smaller businesses, and we have set ourselves up to provide well-crafted, finished, machined components to high standards in a timely fashion for a broad customers base,” explains Nick.

“Alongside our skilled machinists, we have a full range of new machinery, all less than two years old, including a Biesse Rover A Smart CNC machine, an Akron 1300 edgebander, a Holz-Her Auriga1308 XL edgebander and a Biesse beam saw and Skipper machine. This set up typically enables us to deliver on orders within five days.”

The company’s design work is all carried out using industry-leading Imos design software which allows thre Leeds firm to design bespoke units for its clients.

Cut & Edge Leeds is part of a nationwide business, but being based in Leeds, it can deliver to Scotland and the south at least once a week. As Nick says: “We can deliver in curtain-sided vehicles, or smaller transits depending on the size of the order.”

As Cut & Edge Leeds operates within the manufacturing industry, in some ways, the company almost needs the struggles that companies go through to fuel the need for its services.

“We know the importance of the price being right, but also being quick and on time is crucially important to our clients – and I know full well from lots of feedback that our clients value our clear and consistent approach”

Trend-wise, Nick says that grey tones remain popular at the moment, but says that whites are coming back again. He also notes that increasing numbers of customers are creating dressing rooms and walk-in-wardrobes at the moment.

“The last 18 months have been both good and bad at the same time,” says Nick, “a lack of stock has meant that like many other business we have not been able to supply as much as we would have wanted, and of course as has been windely reported, lots of people have decent spent money on their homes this last year, so demand is currently strong and the outlook is positive.”

To satisfy growing demand, Nick is keen on further investment to help speed up the process and achieve even higher standards by adding new technology to the company’s set up – a second edgebander is in the offing alongisde other upgrades. Perhaps just importantly, the Leeds business is looking to employ a sales associate who can help increase business.
