Constant development keeps business wrapped up

What are the hallmarks of a company which not only survives but prospers in the trade services sector? In short: flexibility, capability and constant innovation. In this article, we take a closer look at F G Parker & Co, a business which started out supplying components to the armed forces in 1950.

F G Parker & Co has specialised in the production and preparation of profile-wrapped mouldings and furniture components for nearly 30 years, but the company started out in 1950s as a component provider for temporary structures required by the armed forces.

Today, the Dorset firm works with many of the UK’s leading kitchen and bedroom furniture manufacturers with high quality profile-wrapped mouldings and furniture components.

Constant investment in up to date equipment – such as the latest generation of moulders and profile wrapping machines and edgebanders – has enabled the company to keep pace with customers’ exacting requirements and to maintain its service reputation on both large contracts as well as bespoke orders from interior designers and shop- and office-fitting contractors.

The entire manufacture and tooling for wrapped mouldings is undertaken in-house on the company’s two acre production site which provides full quality control assurance at all times. For cornices, pelmets and other furniture components, F G Parker & Co provides a comprehensive range of colour matches in both traditional and contemporary styles.

The business is now managed by George Parker’s grandson, Robert, and his father Tony Parker. The company has built on its earlier success continuing to supply many of the country’s leading manufacturers of high quality flat-packed furniture and assembled.

Today, the 20,000sq ft production plant is home to highly advanced CNC routing equipment, the very latest CAD/CAM capabilities and state-of-the-art edging, wrapping, cutting and drilling facilities, providing the flexibility and service standards required by customers all over the country.

Cutting
The company is a specialist in cutting chipboard, MFC, MDF and raw boards on its high speed, automatic beam saws and automatic crosscut saws which are able to meet most requirements. It uses the latest in optimisation software to minimise waste and optimise customers’ cutting lists so that each panel can be cut exceedingly accurately.

Drilling rails
The company’s specialist drilling and boring machines enable it to offer various holes drilled to any area of any sized cross-tie, post, mullion, front rail and back rail. Additionally, it can drill longer sized rails up to 3m long. The firm’s rail drilling department is able to cope with high volume orders as well as small batches.
