A special year for Starbank

The pace of investment has been incredible at Starbank’s new site with new CNC technology, Biomass & Solar energy systems and intelligent lighting to name but a few. PUR edgebanding technology however has given the company one of the greatest quality improvements to its component manufacturing capabilities over recent years.

Running its Homag straight-line edgebanders exclusively on high quality performance PUR hotmelts offers the market the ultimate in performance vs flexibility and delivers a virtually invisible seam.

The PUR glueline is delivered byway of precision slot nozzles from Nordson, which being a closed system eliminates open rollers and gluepots found on lesser EVA machinery. The results are outstanding, providing a very thin glueline with a high physical bond which then moisture cures typically in 24-48 hours by way of a chemical cross link which is 100% waterproof.

Starbank lets the final results speak for themselves and has the added advantage of a much more flexible edgebanding offer which Laser cannot meet – everything from thin melamine, 1,2 & 3mm ABS and Acrylics through to solid wood and high pressure laminates – Starbank can edge it all.

The system has really helped the company develop its Shield® and STARlite® 3rd Party Certificated Fire Door and Lightweight Panel product offers.

Boards from 10mm up to 60mm in thickness can be accommodated with ease, together with solid strip materials up to 20mm thick – it’s quite a product offer. Whilst the company does have its eyes on future edgebanding technology, one thing is for sure – PUR is here to stay!

BAZedge - Shaping your designs
For over 15 years Starbank has been at the forefront of CNC-controlled shaped edgebanding onto melamine and laminated panels. It supplies a wide variety of furniture industry sectors on a sub contract basis using high performance machinery from the Homag group.

Currently it operates a pair of very high specification BAZ 723 machining centres, that some would say represent the pinnacle of shaped edging technology.

With or without automated loading, everything from batch size one to high volume work can be manufactured with high efficiency.

Starbank’s latest machine has also been specially upgraded to run the notoriously difficult 3D Acrylic edgebanding  materials with fantastic results up to 50mm in thickness. Very large panel sizes can be accommodated on these machines which were designed with office and contract furniture in mind.

Alongside ABS, acrylics and even veneer edging by way of coiled material, Starbank believes it can offer its customers the most comprehensive shaped panel outsourcing service in the UK.
