Superpan – super versatile

Finsa’s Superpan board product is the panel product of today and tomorrow offering exceptional performance for a variety of applications.

Superpan underpins many of the Spanish multi-national group’s designated products like melamine-faced boards, veneered panels and is a superb substrate for customer choice lamination.

Finsa has developed what it says is an exclusive manufacturing technique by enveloping a chipboard core between two faces of MDF-like fibres in a continuous process.

Originally developed for the MFC products market, Superpan is now seen as the optimum substrate for the latest high gloss finishes and photo-realistic patterns and grains.

Finsa UK’s Rafael Willisch explains that while Superpan is actually a chipboard central core sandwiched between two face layers of MDF, Finsa’s exclusive manufacturing process has achieved this with no extra cost to the user. Whereas some door manufacturers, for example, have resorted to a solid MDF substrate, Superpan offers exactly the same qualities at the cost of chipboard. Rafael says that the relative divergence in price between chipboard and MDF has allowed Superpan to find a natural position in the market.

The MDF faces of Superpan eliminate any irregularities or pitting associated with raw chipboard and this translates into perfect laminating for the final decor – for high gloss finishes it eliminates the risk of the dreaded orange peel blemish.

Superpan also offers other important advantages – mainly a far superior cut with a chip-free edge and a greater residual rigidity which prevents the bending or sagging associated with chipboard.

Finsa also offers Superpan with a full range of uni-colour or woodgrained and special effect melamine and veneered faces and is the chief substrate for the new four categories of the Finsa trend finishes. Superpan is also available for the construction in moisture-resistant P4 and structural P6 worktop grades. Superpan PLUS P6 is also ideal for suspended and mezzanine flooring in factories and offices with superior performance in terms of load bearing strength over regular chipboard.

Superpan’s latest incarnation is the high-tech Superpan STAR product – a collaboration between Finsa and Germany’s BASF chemical giant in which the chipboard core of the Superpan board is infused with a polymer product called Kaurit Light giving a board that is up to 30% lighter than the standard Superpan board but not compromising on any of the performance characteristics.

Finsa holds extensive stocks of Superpan at its headquarters on Merseyside and distribute the product nationwide in minimum order quantities.
