Furniture linoleum is continuing to establish itself as a popular choice for kitchens and fitted furniture, offering manufacturers an alternative surface material that combines durability, sustainability and ease of maintenance. Originally developed as a flooring material, Forbo Desktop Linoleum has proved equally well suited to cabinetry, workspaces and furniture thanks to its hard-wearing properties and distinctive matt, soft-touch finish.
OSTERMANN stocks the material in 24 standard colours alongside a pigment-free version that gradually develops a natural patina when exposed to light, creating an appearance similar to that of natural timber. The collection is further extended with five Marmoleum decors featuring a subtle marbled effect, providing designers with additional options for contemporary interiors.
Recognising the increasing demand for bespoke furniture, the company also offers Desktop Linoleum cut to size, helping manufacturers reduce preparation time, minimise waste and simplify production. An online configurator allows customers to specify ready-to-install linoleum fronts by selecting colours, substrates and edging materials, making the process more efficient for one-off commissions as well as larger production runs.
Edgings, care and added value
To complement the furniture linoleum collection, OSTERMANN supplies matching linoleum edgings designed to create a consistent finish across cabinets and furniture components. Available in three widths and two thicknesses, the edging is manufactured from either two or four layers of 0.5 mm real wood veneer bonded using PVAc dispersion adhesive. Each edging is supplied pre-sanded with a 180-grit finish to reduce preparation before finishing, while the reverse side is factory-primed to promote improved adhesion during bonding and provide greater flexibility during processing.
For manufacturers requiring non-standard dimensions, OSTERMANN’s slitting service enables veneer edgings to be supplied in bespoke widths. The new edging has also been designed to coordinate with the company’s matching eucalyptus veneer surface, available in 2,800 x 1,250 mm sheets, enabling furniture makers to specify complementary surfaces and edging materials throughout a project.

The search function also links directly to colour-matched surface repair products, including edging touch-up sticks and hard and soft wax fillers for repairing minor damage. A recent addition is a range of self-adhesive melamine cover caps, available in 14 mm and 20 mm diameters for selected board decors, providing a coordinated solution for concealing drilled holes in finished furniture.
