Mirka – at the forefront of innovation

Mirka is a market leading tools and abrasive manufacturer with a growing product portfolio suitable for use across multiple applications. To ensure its tools meet the continuing evolution of job requirements, Mirka is in constant communication with its customers to gain valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within the industry. This information is then circulated to the R&D team who use it to design innovative and versatile products that meet users’ requirements and assist in increasing productivity and efficiency, providing a dust-free work environment and maximising profitability.

Examples of this interactivity are the development of the Mirka® DEROS II and DEOS II, which have been upgraded to provide users with up to 20 per cent more sanding power thanks to their long-life electric motor. These tools have been designed with a compact, ergonomic design which makes them easy to use and low maintenance.

The brushless electric motor, which powers both tools, is smooth-running with a low noise level, reducing stress when sanding for longer periods. As well as ergonomics and ease of use, the hallmark of the Mirka sander range is compatibility with dust-free sanding. When these tools are combined with a Mirka dust extractor and its dust-free net abrasives a safer and healthier working environment is provided.

There is also a move towards industry automation which is leading to businesses requiring a complete package for automated manufacturing processes. To meet this demand, Mirka’s range of innovative robotic sanding solutions includes the Mirka® AIOS sanding head, the Mirka® AIROP polishing head and the Mirka® AIROS, the first smart electric sander designed for robotic sanding applications.

These heads are suitable for a wide range of industrial processes and drive-up productivity and finishing quality with robotic precision. Their compact design makes them ideal for confined spaces, detail work and sanding small areas.

The tools can be fitted to low payload robot arms and come with a standardised ISO 9409-1-80-6-M8 flange that can also be customised with an adapter. The robotic sanding heads can also be adapted to work with Universal Robots collaborative solutions using a special UR installation kit that includes the Mirka tool, the motor drive cabinet, cabling and the required UR adaptor flange.
