William’s passion for finishes was gained through 40 years of experience in the wood industry. He first qualified as a Pattern Maker in his younger years, carving patterns from wood and trading in exotic and European timbers around the world, gaining knowledge of timber and understanding how timber behaves, including veneers.
Proceeding to work with architects and designers on projects and helping them with timber and coating specifications for their projects means William brings more than just a product to the industry. His colour-matching ability and techniques assist architects in projects globally. As Managing Director of a leading furniture and joinery operation, manufacturing furniture for the Hotel and Wine Industry, he gained a very good understanding of coatings and what was required for finishing and durability on European and Tropical timbers.
Koate has established a very good working link with Valchromat with its Xmatt varnish that creates an invisible look. The development of its range of varnishes has led to a new look and feel on all timbers.
Supporting its industrial customers, Koate offers a wide range of products and services in coatings for spraying applications depending on their requirements. Its range offers Fire Retardants in water-based and solvent-based products that meet Euroclass B fire ratings. These have been specified on projects across the UK.
