Flat surfaces and precisely joined edges are essential for precise joints and high-quality workpieces. With the T54 planer, MARTIN offers a solution that combines these work steps with high precision and ease of use. A planing width of 500 mm, a 5.5 kW drive and a cutting depth of up to 8 mm provide the basis for versatile use in joinery and cabinet-making workshops.
The machine is based on the MARTIN machine frame, constructed from a steel-concrete composite. Its high rigidity and excellent damping properties ensure smooth machine operation. Solid cast iron tables provide a stable support even for large and heavy workpieces. Even the standard version comes with a 1,640 mm-long feed table and a 1,200 mm-long discharge table. For machining longer workpieces, optional versions with table lengths of 2,000 mm or 1,580 mm are available.
When joining workpieces, precise guidance and quickly accessible adjustments are essential. The T54’s ball-bearing-guided planing stop moves smoothly and without jamming along hardened guideways. It can be adjusted continuously between 90° and 45° using a one-hand adjustment mechanism. This allows not only right-angled edges but also chamfers to be planed quickly. An integrated auxiliary stop ensures the safe guidance of small and narrow workpieces.
As standard, the T54 is fitted with a TERSA solid-steel cutter shaft with four cutter holders. The system enables quick blade changes and, with different blade grades available, offers flexibility for a range of machining tasks. Alternatively, the Xplane blade shaft with three spiral rows of carbide blades is available. Its pulling cut ensures fine surfaces, particularly with demanding woods, and reduces noise levels during machining. This allows the machine to be specifically adapted to the requirements of the workshop.
The controls are also designed for ease of use. The cutting depth is adjusted electrically; a display facilitates monitoring. The adjustment of the hollow and pointed joints allows the user to precisely control the joint finish. A control panel that moves in tandem with the planing fence is available as an option. It brings the controls and the digital cutting depth display within the user’s immediate reach and field of vision. The CPS bridge guard is also included as standard, whilst the SUVAMATIC safety device is available as an option.
With its robust construction, precise stop guidance and selectable equipment, the T54 supports reliable processes in solid timber machining. It lays the foundation for the subsequent production steps – from dimensionally accurate thickness planing to precision-fit joints. Together with the T45 thickness planer, it forms a machine pair that enables both operations to be carried out without changeover and even in parallel.
