Leading the way in design innovation – a conversation with Kronospan

Ray Millo, Regional Sales Manager at Kronospan, discusses the launch of the innovative new Trend Collection and the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability ...

The new Trend Collection has generated significant buzz in the industry. What makes it special?

It’s an exciting representation of our position at the forefront of design. We've developed these decors by working closely with international design experts and analysing emerging interior trends.

Can you highlight some of the key innovations in the new collection?

Eight new uni colours form the core of the Trend Collection, a cohesive palette of sophisticated and muted shades. These utilise our new Pearl Sand PD texture, which we've not only introduced in the new decors but made available across four of our most popular existing decors too. It’s a fantastic semi-matt grained texture, and our most scratch resistant finish yet.

We're particularly proud of our four new Primavera decors, which have a repeat-free design across the entire board for a truly natural appearance which replicates a solid wood surface. They have their own PV texture, forming part of our Harmony range where the texture follows the pattern of the woodgrain.

Our three new Cremona Oaks offer design freedom across different surfaces. They all have matching flooring available, and K2738 Torro Cremona Oak even has a matching worktop too. We've also introduced the refined Granada concrete textures and the striking Natural Canella Strata, which brings a contemporary linear design element to the collection.

These designs seem very forward thinking. How does Kronodesign® anticipate and develop such decors?

All our design development is centred at our state-of-the-art facility in Malta, which serves as Kronospan's global design hub. Our approach combines intensive market research with creative innovation. The Pearlsand PD texture, for instance, was developed in response to the growing demand for tactile yet durable surfaces in residential and commercial spaces. The Primavera resulted from our observation that designers increasingly prefer authentic woodgrains.

Sustainability is increasingly important to manufacturers. How does Kronodesign® address this?

At Kronospan, Making Circularity a Reality guides everything we do. Our melamine-faced panels use sustainable wood, while our closed-loop systems maximise recycled content without compromising quality. Through innovative technologies, we've significantly reduced our carbon footprint, and our products' durability naturally supports this circular approach by reducing replacement needs.

What about quality control? How do you ensure consistency across the range?

Quality is non-negotiable for us. Our state-of-the-art facilities maintain strict quality control protocols that exceed industry standards, ensuring our melamine-faced products deliver consistent workability for manufacturers and maintain their appearance for years of daily use.

What feedback have you received from furniture manufacturers?

The response to our Trend Collection has been overwhelmingly positive. Manufacturers appreciate the combination of innovative design and practical functionality. The collection's versatility has also been highlighted – these decors work beautifully in everything from kitchen cabinetry to office furniture.
