Innovative and creative solutions from Medite Smartply

Demand for more sustainable materials has grown significantly in recent years, and as more people become environmentally conscious, furniture makers and manufacturers will be looking to be more selective in the products they choose for their creations.

As part of the Coillte Group, Medite Smartply has continuously developed innovative, versatile and sustainable products, which are suitable for bespoke creations.

With over 400 possible specifications, the Medite MDF range allows designers and fabricators to create interior fit-outs, cabinetry and furniture that strive to meet their client’s design, safety, sustainability and wellbeing goals.

Professional joinery company, Richard Baker Furniture creates bespoke furniture using Medite Premier – a multi-purpose MDF, produced using superior wood refining technology and specially designed resins.

“We usually hand paint all our furniture products and the smooth surface of Medite Premier panels makes it ideal for a high quality, professional finish,” says Rachel Baker of Richard Baker Furniture. “The way the MDF is manufactured, with a very strong core, enables us to use it for bespoke pieces, in particular our coffee bar, door profiles and bolection mouldings.”

The range also includes Medite® Tricoya® Extreme (MTX). It is a lightweight panel guaranteed up to 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground and is especially beneficial in environments where humidity and varying weather are usually concerns. This gives manufacturers and designers limitless design freedom.

Infinitus Bespoke Interiors created an art deco inspired home in the heart of London, which included the re-fitting of bedrooms and bathrooms to incorporate smooth, clean lines, high gloss surfaces, mirror cladding and ambient lighting.

“We decided on Medite MR and MTX as they by far offered the best solution to be able to achieve a polished, authentic art deco look,” says director at Infinitus Bespoke Interiors, Andrew Fishwick. “In the bathrooms and anywhere it was likely that the fittings would be in contact with water, we used MTX to ensure the longevity of the installation.”

As acetylated MDF, MTX can be used in applications where normal MDF panels cannot, and still retains all the design, fixing, and machining flexibility of regular MDF panels. Its outstanding features will be demonstrated further at this year’s 2022 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. It is the main material used for the centrepiece of the Medite Smartply Building the Future Garden designed by multi-award-winning landscape architect and garden designer, Sarah Eberle.

Medite Smartply further demonstrates the product’s limitless design capabilities on its own online MDF community site meditemakesitreal.com, which invites MDF enthusiasts to share work, gain inspiration and even win prizes that will enable the user to build bigger and better with MDF.
