Boosting digitalisation in the carpentry trade with ConnectControl

Digitalisation has long been a topic of importance in the carpentry trade. While many companies – large and small – already use CAD and CNC technologies in production, and around three-quarters rely on digital tools for processes like quotations and invoicing, there remain significant gaps.

In particular, planning, recording and transferring job data – especially to standard machines like sliding table saws or spindle moulders – are still often handled manually. Many businesses report that integration of these machines into digital networks is barely possible with conventional solutions.

MARTIN, a Bavarian machinery manufacturer, addresses this challenge with its patented ConnectControl control concept. This solution not only provides machines with all relevant digital information but also connects employees, creating a seamless and integrated digital workflow.

At the heart of ConnectControl is the ConnectTouch control unit, permanently mounted to each machine, which focuses on machine operation. Complementing this is the ConnectPad tablet with the ConnectApp, enabling operators to access relevant data and instructions. This turns the tablet into a central interface between machine and production planning, offering full digital functionality through a familiar, user-friendly device.

Each employee is equipped with their own ConnectPad, allowing them to operate machines, retrieve part lists, view measurement images, and check design drawings – whether they are on-site or in the workshop.

Updates and changes to job details can be shared instantly across the team, ensuring everyone remains informed and aligned in real-time.

The system’s backbone is ConnectDrive, MARTIN’s cloud-based platform. It enables secure and intelligent data exchange between production planning and the shop floor. It also serves as a central hub for tool databases, job and cutting lists, software updates, and remote maintenance capabilities.

Despite concerns that digitalisation might overcomplicate operations or overwhelm staff, MARTIN argues the opposite. In fact, the structured workflows required for digital implementation bring clarity and transparency, replacing chaotic processes with efficient, repeatable systems.

ConnectControl proves that digitalisation is not a burden but a valuable opportunity – especially for small and medium-sized carpentry businesses – to increase efficiency, improve communication, and future-proof their operations.
