Upholstery manufacturer, Whitemeadow, has reached an agreement with administrator Interpath to acquire the exclusive intellectual property and design rights for the full portfolio of independent product ranges previously produced by Westbridge Furniture.
Westbridge, long regarded as a staple of the UK upholstery sector, built its reputation on dependable build quality and comfort-led design, with its unfortunate recent liquidation leaving a notable gap in the market.
Whitemeadow says the acquired portfolio represents a strong commercial opportunity, with many of the ranges already well established across retail partners in both the UK and Ireland. A number of these accounts are existing Whitemeadow customers, while others are expected to offer scope for new partnerships, alongside continuity for retailers currently selling Westbridge models.
The company notes a clear alignment between the two businesses, citing shared strengths in comfort-focused design and consistent manufacturing standards. It believes integrating the ranges will enhance its existing offer, adding proven products with established consumer recognition.
Support for retailers is expected to be a key priority during the transition. Whitemeadow plans to contact stockists directly to outline which models will move forward first, particularly where showroom displays are already in place.
Sales and marketing director Daniel Oscroft acknowledged the wider impact of the situation, describing Westbridge as a respected contributor to the industry over many years. He added that the immediate focus will be on helping retailers maintain momentum with the affected ranges, while continuing to invest in UK manufacturing and commercially viable product development.
A phased rollout is now underway, beginning with four core models scheduled for early reintroduction as soon as next month. Additional lines are expected to follow later in the year, with a broader showcase planned for the January Furniture Show.
