TMJ Interiors, based in Ipswich, has won the British Woodworking Federation’s (BWF) Apprentice of the Year Award, in recognition of the outstanding talent, dedication, and skill demonstrated by its apprentice, Luke Newton.
The Apprentice of the Year Award is sponsored by CITB, the industry training board for the construction sector in England, Scotland, and Wales. The Award celebrates the achievements of apprentices within woodworking businesses, recognising quality of work to agreed quality targets and standards, a safety-first attitude, and extraordinary commitment that adds real value to workplace.
In Luke’s award nomination, his employer said, “From his very first interview, it was clear that Luke would be a valuable asset to TMJ. Luke exemplifies the ideal apprentice - skilled, dedicated, and aligned with our values.”
The BWF Award judges highlighted that Luke has already demonstrated exceptional dedication to his craft and is a recipient of TMJ’s Green Card Award – an initiative that recognises individuals who champion health and safety in the workplace. They also commended him for “showing impressive perseverance and passion while working on a 100-year-old building” and added that they look forward to seeing more of his accomplishments in the future.
Luke Newton, apprentice at TMJ Interiors said, “I am really pleased to have been recognised with this award. Being an apprentice at TMJ has given me the chance to develop my skills, work on exciting projects, and learn from an amazing team. I’m really grateful to everyone for their guidance and support.”

The prize was presented at a celebratory awards evening on Friday 21st November at the Kimpton Fitzroy London.
