The UK’s leading downdraught bench – sponsoring the world’s fastest car

AirBench Ltd has announced the sponsorship of Bloodhound SSC – the car which is due to break the 1000mph barrier and smash the current land speed record. AirBench is providing downdraught benches and associated equipment to the team for the duration of the project.

“We became involved in the project due to the extensive use of carbon fibre in the construction of the car – leading to an ongoing requirement for highly effective dust extraction,” explains AirBench Ltd MD, Simon Cook.

“The project is a fantastic opportunity to promote British industry and a great boost for engineering education throughout the country. With our extensive background supporting F1 teams during their composite manufacturing processes, Bloodhound is a natural progression for AirBench Ltd.”

Bloodhound SSC will be using AirBench FN189784H, a heavy-duty downdraught bench designed for capture of carbon fibre dusts. AirBench Ltd currently supplies downdraught benches to every UK-based  F1 team, along with a huge range of other race teams and automotive suppliers.

The project not only aims to develop the fastest car ever built, there is a huge educational component, with schools across the country engaged on every level – so the legacy from this project will endure for many years as new generations of engineers are inspired by their exposure to such an impressive development.

Both AirBench Ltd and Bloodhound SSC will be exhibiting at the Composites Exhibition in November at the NEC – visit stand C92 to see AirBench in operation.
