Timber Development UK (TDUK) has held a meeting with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in London, along with key timber industry stakeholders, to discuss the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the UK Forest Risk Commodities Regulation.
During the discussion, members present were updated about the Indonesian SVLK system – a national forestry and timber assurance standard – and how it can help members prepare for the upcoming regulatory changes. The group also discussed the challenges that EUDR will place upon the sector and the opportunities for improved trade between Indonesia and the UK.
“Meeting with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia was a fantastic opportunity for us all to get together and discuss the implications of the upcoming EUDR regulation," comments David Hopkins, CEO of TDUK. "While the date EUDR comes into force has been delayed until the end of this year, it’s vital that the timber industry uses this time to make sure they are compliant and ready for all the changes. We were also delighted to learn more about the SVLK system and the support it can provide.”
The event was hosted by Ambassador Desra Percaya, with Chris Sutton, Chair of TDUK, and Emily Fripp, EFECA’s Managing Director also present.
