The Sherwin-Williams Company has announced the opening of its new Research & Development Centre in Arlandastad, Sweden, reinforcing the Company's long-term commitment to innovation and customer-focused product development for the global wood coatings industry.
The new facility represents a significant milestone for Sherwin-Williams Industrial Wood Division and further strengthens its global innovation network. Designed as a state-of-the-art hub for research, testing and collaboration, the centre will support the development of next-generation coating technologies for customers across Europe and beyond.
With a gross floor area of nearly 4,000 square metres, the new two-storey building features more than 20 dedicated laboratory rooms, modern collaboration spaces and six meeting rooms, as well as a conference and exhibition area capable of accommodating up to 150 people. The facility has been designed to accommodate future growth and can support up to 60 engineers, scientists and technical specialists.
The Arlandastad R&D Centre has been created to accelerate innovation across the portfolio, enabling closer cooperation between R&D, technical service, product management and customers. The expanded capabilities will help Sherwin-Williams develop solutions that address evolving market demands, regulatory requirements and sustainability expectations while continuing to deliver high-performance coatings for manufacturers worldwide.

Sustainability was a key consideration in the design of the new facility. The building incorporates several energy-efficient features, including high-performance insulation and extensive heat recovery systems that capture energy generated by technological processes. In addition, the facility is powered by renewable energy sources, supporting the broader sustainability ambitions of Sherwin-Williams.
