Nottingham business sees 200% increase in staff cycling to work following grant

Daltons Wadkin has been based in Nottingham for over a century, but the company is embracing innovation and going green thanks to a grant from Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service team.

Thanks to a 75% funded grant of £14,255, a smart secure cycle shelter and two additional EV charging points have been installed for staff and visitors who were keen to go green.

Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service team gave Daltons Wadkin advice on what green travel infrastructure could benefit them and assisted with their grant application.

75% of the net cost was paid for through the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund. The Workplace Parking Levy team also help signpost businesses towards the funding.

Since the improvements, more staff are cycling to work than ever, with more Daltons Wadkin staff now wheeling to work at their base on Queens Drive Industrial Estate.

Alex Dalton said: “When we heard about the opportunity to apply for a grant with Nottingham City Council, we already had a number of staff who were travelling to work on foot, cycles and in electric vehicles. Following meetings with our staff, there was enthusiasm for more environmentally friendly travel methods if the facilities were available.”

“After benefitting from the grant, our new EV chargers are being used by visitors daily, and adding a secure bike shelter has helped spur a 200% increase in staff cycling to work.”

Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council and Executive Member for Strategic Regeneration, Transport and Communications said: “Helping local businesses and other organisations become greener and cut harmful air pollution is a key goal of the City Council, and so it’s fantastic to see such a long established local company taking advantage of our Workplace Travel Service to do just that.”

“I encourage local businesses, charities and public sector organisations to chat to our friendly team to see what kind of green travel improvements your staff and visitors could benefit from.”
