New inclusive timber trade body launched

The Confederation of Timber Industries (CTI) was launched on 10th June at the Building Centre, London.

The CTI is an independent umbrella organisation representing timber supply chain from forest to end of life recycling and energy recovery. The timber industry is a growing and innovative branch of the UK economy with an estimated turnover which the CTI says is in the region of £20bn.

The new confederation member’s network includes producers, manufacturers distributors of timber and wood based products, paper industries, furniture manufacturers and retailers. CTI members comprise multi-national companies, as well as key Trade associations and Professional organisations.

TheCTI's new chief executive, Dirk Vennix, spoke at the new trabde body launch, saying:

"It will be a long journey but I am ready for this challenge - I will work hard to make wood a first choice product and expand our market."

Dr Peter Bonfield OBE,  chief executive of the Building Research Group of Companies, says:

“I, and I am sure many others, will welcome the new Confederation of Timber Industries - known as the CTI. There has been a strong need for many years to bring all aspects of the timber sector together under a single organisation. This is so that, in addition to addressing particular sector interests within the industry, it can present a unified, outward facing route to its customers current and future. The CTI fulfils this goal and I have little doubt will achieve a great deal in helping to unlock and fulfil customer needs and market potential. I wish the CTI every success.

David Lennan, chief executive of the TTF, says:

“This is a very significant development for this major UK Industry chain. An influential national voice and greater political engament will help to ensure that the issues concerns and potential of the timber supply chain is at the forefront of UK Construction and all related industries."

What is the CTI all about?
