Makita UK, one of Britain’s leading professional power tool manufacturers has announced a new collaboration with the National School of Furniture (NSF). The NSF is a partnership between Bucks New University and Oxford & Cherwell Valley College, based at the historic home of furniture, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
Makita’s power tools will be available for undergraduates of the BA (Hons) Furniture degree courses from specially equipped workshops at the university. There will also be provision of practical training sessions in the safe use and familiarisation of these high performance products and technologies. Equally, workshop technicians at the university have an open invitation to join Makita’s training centre at its Milton Keynes headquarters for training and product evaluation of new power tool introductions.
The first event to mark the new relationship took place in June at the Bucks End of Year Show 2013, a chance for second and third year undergraduates of the furniture degree courses to display a selection of outstanding projects, many of which have been three years in the making. At this event the company sponsored the Makita Award for Design Innovation 2013 which will be made annually to the overall winner and runner up at the Bucks EYeS End of Year Show.
