Staff at the UK’s largest online ironmongery supplier, Ironmongery Direct, which is based in Basildon, have rallied together to collect food and supplies for their local Trussell Trust foodbank, which provides emergency food parcels and support to local residents in need.
The collection was organised by Ironmongery Direct’s WOW Forum, a group of employees who organise regular charity initiatives for the company. In total over 500 items weighing 229kg were donated by employees, including non-perishable food items, toiletries and baby products.
David Saxby, product manager at Ironmongery Direct and WOW forum chairman, says: “Foodbanks across the UK are desperately in need of more supplies so we were delighted to support our local Trussell Trust foodbank, which does amazing work to help and support people in our community who find themselves in very difficult circumstances. The response from our staff has been incredible – it’s been a wonderful example of community spirit.”
Pastor Victor Oladele, whose church operates The Trussell Trust Basildon Foodbank, says: “Thank you to the staff at IronmongeryDirect who contributed to this collection for the food bank. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of others and this donation will help us to continue providing emergency support to those most in need in our local communities.”
