Daltons Wadkin delivers certificated operator training at Howarth Timber

Daltons Wadkin’s ‘red team’ of trainers has been delivering certificated operator training to Howarth Timber & Building Supplies (HTBS) for decades – most recently at the Bury St Edmunds branch, for two new starters who needed training on the Elcon vertical panel saw, and Salvador semi-automatic upcut.

HTBS has a longstanding relationship with Daltons Wadkin for machinery, servicing and certificated operator training, which has endured since the early 1990s. Both family-run businesses with well over 100 years’ experience, their core values and ethics coincide.

“Over the last three years, we have completed three major workshop installations located at Bury St Edmunds, Cheadle and Northwich, continuing our long relationship with equipment supply and ongoing support for Howarth Timber,” explains Daltons Wadkin’s sales director, Andy Walsh.

The Bury St Edmunds branch received both serviced and new machinery, to adhere to budgetary requirements. This resulted in an impressive mixture of classical and new high-quality machines from reputable manufacturers such as Stenner, Sedgwick, Elcon and Salvador – all supported with certificated operator training.

As with all training courses, it was a hands-on and engaging couple of days for the new recruits – Adam and Steve – who had no prior experience on these machines. Speaking halfway through his first day on the Elcon vertical panel saw, Adam said: “Training has been great, we’ve been shown how to cut horizontally and vertically, and how to change the blade, it’s been good. I’d had no experience before, this is the first time I’ve seen it in operation. I feel confident I can operate the machinery correctly and safely.”

New starters and novice users most commonly have the greatest training needs, but experienced operators will also require refresher training. All delegates are individually assessed, taking into consideration their age and experience. Daltons Wadkin’s qualified trainers adapt the courses accordingly to suit both the operators and the type of work being carried out.
