Morris Joinery wins in Shropshire Business Awards

A local joinery manufacturer has won a prized Shropshire Business Award for its commitment to growing skills through apprenticeships.

Shrewsbury’s Morris Joinery was presented with the trophy by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, at its annual awards ceremony at Telford International Centre.

It was judged best in the county for its dedication to the employment of apprenticeship schemes.

The business is known for its quality and craftsmanship in producing a variety of commercial and domestic work, from windows and doors to staircases and bespoke furniture. It passes on the skills needed by developing and nurturing the talents of young people who join as apprentices.

Steve Granda, joinery manager at Morris Joinery, says: “We are so pleased and proud to win this business award. It recognises our talented apprentices, who work hard, are keen to learn and make a positive contribution to our business and also recognises the commitment we have to apprenticeships.

“It is important we attract young people to our workforce and teach them skills while maintaining the traditional and quality standard of work we produce.”

The company has taken on six apprentices in the last seven years, with three currently gaining hands-on experience in its Bicton workshop. Each apprentice is assigned a dedicated mentor and given the support they need to succeed.
