Staged on the third floor of Design Factory (The Farmiloe Building), the talks programme - an integral part of the festival - offers an arena to introduce and discuss new innovations, raise industry issues and network with fellow A&D professionals. With up to five talks scheduled for each day, this focused series is set to deliver world-class content right at the heart of the festival.
This year’s Conversations at Clerkenwell will address some of the key issues for London’s architecture and design industry. The programme will include talks and insights from leading architects and designers – from Ron Arad and Arik Levy, to The Campana Brothers (left), Sir Peter Cook (above, pictured with Gavin Robotham), Sir Kenneth Grange, Ben van Berkel of UNStudio, Jason Bruges and Russ Hamilton of Farrells.
In partnership with the Design Museum, Clerkenwell Design Week has also invited influential figures including Patricia Urquiola (right) and Rolf Fehlbaum of Vitra to host a special DM25 talk – as part of the museum’s 25th anniversary celebration - during the festival. Chaired by the museum’s Director Deyan Sudjic, the seminar will explore the nature of the relationship between design and the world beyond the studio.
The full programme of Conversations at Clerkenwell is as follows (all open to the public; free entry except the DM25 talk on 21 May, 7pm-8pm; bookings required):

3pm-4pm Furniture informs architecture
CRAB studio’s founders and revered architects Sir Peter Cook and Gavin Robotham ask 'How does furniture inform architecture?' Furniture can provoke a reaction within humans in a far more subliminal way than architecture, and yet frequently it influences and inspires the architecture it sits within. Looking at CRAB's table designs and then tracking the forms of their most recent buildings such as the Law Faculty in Vienna, the furniture and building almost become one.
