Could you talk a little about your professional background, please?
I started as a frame assembler/wood mill machinist in 1999 and worked for various sofa companies within South Wales. In 2017, I trained and qualified to be a Work Measurement Practitioner. I worked as a time study engineer for a sofa manufacturer in South Wales up until the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Later that year I became Work Study Manager for a sofa company in the West Midlands and was promoted to Method & Systems Manager in 2023.
What prompted you to set up MH Productivity?
Unfortunately due to the economic climate and downturn in sales, the company I worked for decided my role was being made redundant.
I was understandably disappointed as I am passionate and truly believe Time & Motion brings enormous value to any business, especially in this current climate.
In January 2025, I decided I would go it alone and offer my services & experience to all furniture manufacturers as MH Productivity.
Could you discuss the services offered at MH Productivity in more detail?
I offer a friendly, professional and confidential service, using various work measurement techniques to supply accurate time measurements & data analysis to any chosen process.
What key challenges faced by manufacturers in today’s climate can MH Productivity provide solutions for?
In today’s climate all retail, especially furniture manufacturers, are seeing a downturn in sales.
With this being said, companies need to look at saving money or, more importantly, stop wasting money. Some of the key benefits of time studies are identifying where time and materials are being wasted within a process, as well as establishing standard task times for better workforce planning and resource allocation, and ensuring the right number of employees are assigned to meet demands.
What are your goals for the company?
Being a one-man operation firstly I would like to build up a portfolio of clients within the furniture industry who use MH productivity for all their time study needs. Then, in the future, I’d like to have a team of Time study engineers and branch out into other industries.
